Small Terracotta and Round Terracotta Bead. The round beads are a replica of a sacred stone of Dogon Mythology called "Douge". The stones; according to the Dogon; represent the bones of the original 'Hogon': the first high priest of the Dogon people. In their mythology, it is said that this original Hogon visits the four chief people (current Hogons) of the Dogons each night as a snake and licks their bodies clean; thus imparting to them the strength of their ancestors. Made in Mali
